Bed and Breakfast. Is this work from home business for you?

How can you make money with bed and breakfast?
I'm going to tell you everything you need to know to get started here.Because making money with B&B is dependent on where you live, and on how much spare room you have, this work from home business won’t be an option for everyone. If you live in an area where either business people or holiday-makers come, this is ideal. A friend of mine loves meeting new people and also loves to cook so she does very well with B&B. Her home has a spare room which she has decorated tastefully and she now has a useful extra income around her part-time job. Why not make money from your spare room?
How much can you charge?
Check out what others in your area are charging for bed and breakfast. This will give you an idea of what you could make where you live. Also contact your local tourist board/agency and see what advice they can give you. There will be rules you need to keep to and they can help with all those practicalities. You may find

very useful.
How do you get customers?
A great and cost-effective way to get regular customers would be to
create a website.
Don't worry, you don't need any previous experience! If you read these inspirational
case studies
you will see how incredibly effective this could be for your B&B business. This route will save you a lot of money that you would otherwise need to spend on advertising and marketing. Plus, it will be much more effective.
How can you make your B&B attractive to your clients?
First, decide on the kind of B&B you want to provide. This will depend partly on what your home is like. For instance if your home is a small and cosy town house you will be attracting a different type of client than if you have a spacious farmhouse in the country. Get some interior design magazines and see what you can do to make the room look as good as possible.
Other ideas for you to think about
Do you want to offer a standard cooked breakfast or cater to vegetarians and people wanting healthy options? Will it be a buffet breakfast, or continental breakfast? Are you a good cook? If so, mention that. Will the food be home-made (home made bread, home-produced eggs, fresh-ground coffee etc)? Will it be organic? Will it just be a bed and breakfast or can you offer extras like complimentary therapies? You may find that people don't want to pay for nice extras like these in your area, so you need to research your B&B market.
If you create your own website to promote your bed and breakfast you could show all your menu options and extras you offer to tempt people. You could have pictures and information about local attractions as well as your accommodation.
Also have a good map on your site so people can find you easily. Once you are successfully running your B&B you could add testimonials from clients who have enjoyed their stay. Make sure you get their permission first.
It can be hard work having a bed and breakfast business if you have lots of rooms to let, although if you just have one or two rooms, it should be relatively easy. There are beds to change, rooms to clean, breakfasts to cook, washing up and so on.
Also remember you are dealing with the public which can be challenging at times. Having said that you will also meet some great people who may come back to you year after year.
