So, here are the different things you need to do: Domain name This is far more important than many people realise. Your domain name can make a huge difference to your success. How? Well, if your domain name contains your MAIN KEYWORD for your site’s subject (eg. Kids games or sports goods or baseball for instance) then this can help your search engine rankings. So, a site about kid’s games with the domain name www.kids-games-online.com will score points with the search engines whereas if you choose the domain www.davejonesshop.com you get no points! Also, the first name is memorable for anyone interested in kids games, whereas the second one isn’t. This may all sound really obvious but I’m amazed at how many sites have rubbish domain names! I usually pay about £8 a year for a dot com domain name. Web Host The costs vary but an average price for hosting your site on the web is around £10 a month. Now, you can get free web hosting – don’t bother with these as there are simply too many disadvantages. It’s a false economy to ‘save’ money this way. One main disadvantage is that the search engines often ignore free web hosts which means disaster for you. How you can create websites software 2 popular softwares are Dreamweaver and Coffee Cup. Dreamweaver costs upwards of $999 and Coffee Cip starts around $49 at the time of writing this, with additional costs for everything you want to add on. Don’t panic! There is also the free option (if you can do HTML or are willing to learn) simply using a program like notebook. But you don’t get design templates with that but you can download some from various sites on the web. I used to use Coffee Cup and had no problems creating a basic site. However I wouldn’t go back to any of the above now…here’s why.
What is the best software to create a website?I’ll tell you very shortly the very best software I have found, but first... The problem I had with creating sites in the ways I have mentioned is that I didn’t at first know how to get visitors to my sites (in large numbers!). I gradually learned what’s called SEO (search engine optimisation) but even then I wasn’t getting the results I wanted and there always seemed to be more to learn. Things like meta tags, links, keywords and how to use them, how to submit my sites to the search engines and more…it was a very steep learning curve. I then started noticing something very interesting. I found while I was surfing the web for information that a large number of the sites I came across were all built using the same program. But what intrigued me was that these sites were all on page 1 of Google for their main site’s subject. Hmm… that’s where every website wants to be ‘cos that’s where all the traffic and therefore big income is. To cut a long story short, I did some research and ever since I have used the same program, called SBI or Site Build It. It’s utterly brilliant in my opinion (and I'm not actually exaggerating!) and I have written a whole section about it (see link below). A HUGE number of websites that are in the top 1% of websites worldwide use this system so that says it all about why I use it. The system not only gives you a domain name and monthly hosting, a linking program and great templates (that’s a very tiny part of what you get), but most importantly they teach you via videos and written info how to get your site ranking on page 1 of all the search engines. Bottom line? Your site will be successful and make you money – rather than costing you money. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
