I'm going to show you the pros and cons of link directories, show you the links directory I use, and give you more ideas for how to get good quality one-way links.

Links are a big part of any webmasters toolkit. You need them for good search engine rankings (among the many other things that help rankings like great keywords).

A premium links directory could enable you to rank higher and faster in the search engines.

It will save you countless hours of your time because the alternative is emailing other sites with your link, asking them to exchange with you. Tedious!

It will enable you to get free traffic from the search engines.

The problem with link exchanges?

The problem is though that opinion on any type of link exchange is always changing.

One minute general opinion says lots of links is good. Then it's thought that 3-way linking is better. Then one way links are all that counts.

So, it's hard to know what the best route is.

So, along with a links directory I am always creating good quality one-way links by submitting my original articles to article directories.

I also benefit from natural linking (other sites simply link to you because they like your site, so always write great content).

So, I followed her advice and for several years I used this links service and my 5 sites generated decent traffic.

Then I decided that the links probably weren't a factor in my success (!) and I stopped using the links service...

Fast forward a few years and my traffic had plummeted to about 10 visitors a day. The only thing that had changed was that I no longer had 1000's of links.

Needless to say, I re-joined and have learned a valuable lesson.

What I like about Linksmaster is that they work in the opposite way to most links programs. You don't have to manually exchange links. You get up to thousands of links in about 10 minutes. You can filter out categories you don't want, so that you control the type of websites that are linking to you.

You can also add articles to your account which is superb because these are then placed on other members sites so you get more quality one way links from those too.

Their Alexa ranking is currently 107,483 (May 2010) so they are a well established high ranking site which gives me confidence.

More ways to get one-way links

What you also need to do, is submit your website or blog's URL to DIRECTORIES as this gives you high quality, one-way links which is really important.

Some are free, some are paid - don't be put off, the paid ones will be worth it.

Another great way to get quality, one way links is to write articles as I mentioned earlier and submit them to article directories like Ezinearticles, Ideamarketers etc

Make sure your articles are completely original full of quality information.

The search engines soon see through articles that are just 'spam' or re-worked articles.
