Work From Home

My story. Here’s why I feel passionate about helping people work from home. When I was in my early twenties, (few years ago now!) I got my first job. Now, in order to get the job I had to first spend 4 years after I left school doing a design degree. Then I dragged my portfolio around London design studios for about 6 months, attending many interviews and getting lots of rejection. Oh no, I got the job!
You would think after all that effort I would have been thrilled to get the job! And for a few hours I was. Then I read the contract and my heart got heavier and heavier. It made it clear that I would work overtime for no extra pay, as often as required. I would work for 48 weeks a year, 5 days a week, for a fixed income that was barely enough to live on. Sound familiar? I looked ahead and felt so depressed. There was no freedom, no flexibility and no chance to earn what I was worth... Redundancy? I can recommend it!
3 months later, after working around 4 hours overtime every night for no extra pay, I was made redundant. Guess what? They already had the next graduate lined up for a cheap 3 month stint. Being made redundant so early in my career is the best thing that could have happened to me. It made me realize something very important: a job does not give you any long-term stability or security. At any time you are just 30 days away from unemployment – or in my case 24 hours away. I wanted to work from home but at that point I didn’t know how. In time I got another job, felt the same depression once the contract was signed and spent the next 7 years traveling to and from work on the London Underground (a vile way to start the day in my opinion!) for 2-3 hours a day. I then sat designing at my desk from 9am till 10 at night, or even midnight and beyond with no pay after 6pm. What a mug’s game! And I realize that compared to many, many people around the world I had it easy. I used to look out the window on sunny days and just longed to be away from the city, preferably on the coast. I wanted to feel free and I so wanted time to do something other than just work, work, work. I couldn’t see a way out as I wasn’t trained for anything else.

This is where I live now...Fast forward to today. I work from home full-time (which just means I don't do anything else - sunny days I don't work at all) and have been self-employed for about 15 years now. I have just moved to an apartment on the shores of Poole Harbour, having spent 7 wonderful years on the coast in Cornwall. I can see the harbour and Brownsea Island from my balcony and it takes 60 seconds to walk from my front door to the waters edge! My commute to ‘work’ takes even less time as my office is in the room next to my balcony! My time is my own. I cannot believe the contrast with my previous life when I had a job. Every work from home business I do is mentioned on this site.
This is the view from my home. I know that so many people are stuck in jobs they hate and are living in places they don’t want to live, because of the job they don’t want! Debts and stress and a lack of time are often added to that.It all adds up to a depressing way to live. The fact you are reading this means you have found my website, so the good news is, a way out is possible if you are willing to put in the initial effort. What do you dream of? How do you want your life to look? Because day dreaming works when you follow it up with the right action. Believe me, I do it all the time and now have the life of my dreams. I write about all the ways I make money throughout this site, plus many other ways too, as no one route is right for everyone. I hope you find the way to work from home that is perfect for you and your situation and that it gives you whatever it is you most want!
